Singular and Plural Pronouns

Singular and Plural Pronouns are also essential in studying and learning English. This topic adds up to our extensive knowledge of English. Apart from studying the tenses of the verb, the subject-verb agreement, and other topics, this new topic as well is as important as those topics mentioned earlier. Using pronouns can prevent redundancy of the name of the subject or object in the sentence which is why it is better to use pronouns.

Moving on, let us define first what is a Singular Pronoun. Singular pronouns are pronouns that describe singular nouns. Simple as that, right? In addition to that, here are some of the Singular Pronouns namely: He, She, Yours, Hers, Anybody, Anyone and etc.

Singular Pronouns may be challenging to learn as these pronouns include subject pronouns, object pronouns, possessive pronouns, interrogative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns, reflexive and intensive pronouns, and lastly, demonstrative pronouns. To not have a hard time, just look at its antecedent as it can imply if the pronoun is singular or plural.

Plural Pronouns, on the other hand, refer to nouns in plural form. Plural Pronouns include demonstrative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, possessive pronouns, subject pronouns, object pronouns, reflexive and intensive pronouns. Here are several examples of pronouns in plural form: These, We, They, Us, Them, Several and etc.

Although subject, object, possessive, interrogative, and relative pronouns can sometimes be singular or plural, depending on the usage as well as the subjects or objects. For example, the pronoun You can be used as singular o plural, depending on the structure of the sentence.

Singular and Plural Pronouns can be difficult to understand, especially since there are a lot of types of pronouns falling either as singular or plural pronouns. It is important for us to understand the subject or object in the sentence and for us to thoroughly identify which pronoun should be used. It may be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it will just be easy.
